Lucia Tucay Dacanay, 1925 - 2025

Lucia Tucay Dacanay passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025. Lucia was a mother to four children and the beloved wife to Candido S. Dacanay (1908 - 1989).

Born in Santa Maria, Pangasinan, The Philippines, in 1925 to Teodosia Antalan and Marcelo Tucay, she married Candido and immigrated to the United States in 1953. Lucia started out in San Francisco, California, moved to East Palo Alto, California in 1961 and finally settled in Roseburg, Oregon in 2001.

Lucia was a devout Catholic and attended mass every Sunday until she was physically unable to do so. In East Palo Alto she attended Saint Francis of Assisi Church, where she and a close group of cohorts counted the collected monetary offerings for the week. Her faith was consistent and strong until the day of her passing.

Lucia was a wonderful cook who passed her love of Filipino cuisine to her whole family. She was Candido’s enthusiastic dance partner and an avid fan of “Dancing with the Stars.” Her handwritten score sheets from the show still exist. She enjoyed gardening and flowers. And Lucia loved her late pet pug, Jazzy, taking him on short walks as he was a low energy boy.

Lucia loved to travel, taking trips with family to Japan, Hawaii, Italy, Germany and the Philippines. She made the pilgrimage to Our Lady of Medjugorje in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a highlight of her travels.

Lucia is preceded in death by her husband, Candido, her son, Kevin (1961 - 1995) and her grandson Daniel Sacks (1988 - 2008). She is survived by her son Robert, her daughter

Dardine Dacanay-Sacks, her daughter Beverly Dacanay-Martin (Daniel), her grandchildren Mariel Madrid (Keone), Nicole Jaeger (Andrew), Jessica Alsaeedi (Hashem), Christopher Martin (Vivian), and her great grandchildren, Daniel, Rachel, Brice, Numah, Mateo, Michelle, Laila, Thomas, Ameen and Benji. Lucia was always delighted to be surrounded by her loving family.

A viewing will take place on Friday, May 9, 2025, 1:00 p.m. at Pearson’s Funeral Home in Roseburg, Oregon. A Rosary and Catholic mass will be held on Saturday, May 10, 9:20 a.m. at Saint Joseph’s Catholic Church in Roseburg, Oregon followed by a private family burial service.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Catholic Church in Lucia’s name.
