Susan Diane Sutherland, a dedicated mother, sister, and wife passed away peacefully on September 15, 2025, in Roseburg, Oregon. Born on November 1, 1950, Susan's life was a testament to resilience in the face of adversity, as well as warmth and tenderness towards loved ones.

Susan moved from Minnesota’s Iron Range to Southern Oregon in 1986 where her personal and professional life began to flourish. Susan dedicated 30 years to serving veterans as an ICU nurse at the Roseburg VA Medical Center. Starting on the front lines of critical care, she rose through the ranks to management, overseeing multiple hospital floors prior to retirement. Her colleagues remember her not just as a leader, but also as a friend whose empathy and skill touched countless lives. In 1996 she married the love of her life, Keith Sutherland and remained married for 22 years until his untimely death in 2018.

In her personal time, Susan found joy in the rhythms of nature and the comforts of home. She was an avid gardener. Her soul was as beautiful as the flowers she cultivated. Her kitchen was the hub of family gatherings, where she routinely prepared feasts for loved ones. Whether casting a line or walking the beach at the Oregon Coast, Susan embraced every moment with enthusiasm and gratitude.

Susan was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Keith Sutherland. She is survived by her four children: Marsh (Suzanne) Thompson of Corvallis, Oregon; Andy Kilpela of Eveleth, Minnesota; Cam (Susan) Lanyk of Tower, Minnesota; and Christine (Adam) Erickson of Minneapolis, Minnesota, three grandchildren, Payton and Alexa Erickson, Candice Berg, and one great grandchild Connor Belville.

Susan's life will be honored at two heartfelt celebrations. The first will be held on October 4th , 2025, at the home of Cam and Susan Lanyk, 1108 Lagoon Road, Tower, MN 55790, from 1-5PM. A second gathering will take place October 16th , 2025, at her cherished Oregon home at 9416 South Bank Drive, Roseburg, OR 97470, from 1-5PM.
